There is one at Washington Park that is almost pure red among all the mostly striped ones in the same bed. I have always wondered if it was a sport.

Probably. I have the nearly orange stripe of Scentimental, so we know it does sport. See, Special Effects.

It breeds like an orange, as well, which is why I stopped using it.

Geoff Hamilton x Scentimental gave me a litter of coral orange OGR floribundas. Unfortunately, they wilted faster than either parent, and I was definitely just wanting stripes. Scentimental is genetically strange.

I used 'Scentimental' on 'Jessie Clark' when I still had that gigantea. I got hips but never planted the seeds which are still in a drawer. Now that you describe it as odd I'm intrigued what 'Scentimental' might give me on a diploid. I really should plant them. It was just a random cross I made because someone gave me a bunch of 'Scentimental' and I decided to use the pollen.
