Hi Pam!

What is the white climber/rambler on the right side of this picture?

I'm looking for something to climb into my trees.... preferably repeat bloom, nothing much more than 20' and of course tolerant of the shade from the tree.

You might try Mme Alfred Carrière!

Thanks Jay Jay... that's a great suggestion! I already have four of Mme covering my pergola... my favorite livingroom! ...and I'm very pleased with her! I was looking for something new... or, old actually!

You might try Guirlande d'Amour from Lens: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.21419
It blooms twice a year and gets a lot bigger than HMF describes: up to 6m as You asked for.
It's a beauty and smells nice, tolerates shadow and is very healthy and elegant!
Maybe Member Kim Rupert knows where to obtain it, because he photographed the plant, and lives in California too!

I obtained mine from Cliff at Eurodesert, which has closed. Unfortunately, my eyes are bigger than my garden and have passed it on to a good friend who has two gardens where it can grow unmolested. If you'd like cuttings, I'm sure I can put the two of you together to make that happen. Please let me know and I'll let her know you'd like them.

Thank You Kim for Your kindness!

And Deborah, you might send Pam a PM to answer Your question.

You're more than welcome, Jay Jay, and anyone wanting cuttings. This thing GROWS beautifully and flowered quite well even in a two gallon can while I had it. I would have loved to have been able to accommodate the rose as it gorgeous and I love Mr. Lens' creativity.

I'm glad to get the information on size. I received Guirlande d'Amour as a gift this spring. It may still be available from Vintage.

Thank you Kim for your kind offer and info! I am going to go ahead and order her from Gregg, but if that falls through from some reason, can I still take you up on your offer?! My propagation skills still need perfecting... mostly my attention to the plants in propagation needs honing in... so far, only the strongest have survived!

Yes ma'am. I'm sure she'd be fine with sharing cuttings.

Hi Debra, I didn't see your question until this morning. That's Climbing Iceberg. For me it is mostly a spring bloomer. Friends in cooler summer areas tell me it blooms all the time.

Pamela, there are various mutations of Cl. Iceberg around. When it was first introduced, it was classed as a once flowering type only. Like Blaze and a number of others, either through further mutation or good selection for propagation, I'm not sure which, strains which flowered all the time became available and many nurseries obtained that strain to replace their once flowering ones with. I've seen Cl. Iceberg in these parts which flowered as heavily, reliably and continuously as the bush form. Like the mutation in Mlle. Cecile Brunner creating shrub, continuous flowering smaller climber and rampant once flowering cathedral eater, the same thing has occurred with Iceberg. If you seek one which repeats well, shop around for it in late fall, looking to find one which is still heavily flowering. Or, poll your friends to obtain cuttings from flowering stems which are flowering as late in the year as possible. No guaranty, but your chances will be better of obtaining the repeating mutation, particularly if it's from a climate as similar to yours as possible.

Thanks for that info Kim. My plants are so established and happy that I would hate to replace them, but if I found a reblooming clone I would probably try to find a place for it.

Thanks everyone for your comments! The photos that Jay Jay and Kim have on HMF for Guirlande d'Amour are quite convincing! The name is so alluring... and the fact that she is fragrant... quite irrestable! Gregg does have it available at Vintage Gardens from Cliff's old stock, so I think that seals the deal. I have an order from Vintage ready to ship in two weeks, so I will just have to add her to it! Hopefully it's not one of his 2013 ship dates... but she is worth waiting for either way. Pam, I love the way your Cl Iceberg just cascades like a white waterfall. I think the fragrance won me over to the Garland of Love though. Hopefully my eyes are not bigger than my garden...

Pam, will you be having an open garden in May this year?!?!?!?!

Oh no! I looked at my Guirlande d'Amour yesterday afternoon and saw red blooms on it. It's mislabled. This is a plant from Gregg that he got from Cliff. It's some other HM. Who knows if some or all of them are not the right plant.
I just wanted to add that I talked to Gregg yesterday and he said they saw the crop blooming all white, so I just got a hold of one mis labled plant.
