The arboretum includes antique and modern roses and is open dawn until dusk. It became a city of Chesapeake park in May of 2015. The antique roses are planted next to a modest 18th century farmhouse along with heirloom companion plants. The modern roses are planted in front of the greenhouse and vegetable garden. The farmhouse grounds include a wide variety of trees including massive old pecan, cedar and magnolia trees. Camellias, hydrangeas, and azaleas as well as a variety of native shrubs and trees round out this very southern garden.
Cross the street and explore over three miles of trail in a 48-acre southern hardwood forest. The frontage features flowering shrubs and trees with peak bloom in the spring. The trail south leads to a clearing planted with over 120 camellias which bloom from late fall to late spring; the central trail leads to a native tree walk with many labelled specimens including stewartia which blooms gloriously in late spring. A perennial stream runs the length of these woods and there are several footbridges to facilitate access.
