A first small park was implemented in the area in 1890. The current 18 hectares park was completed 1925/26 and named in honour of Pieter Westbroek (1863 -1925), Director of the City Parks, who since 1887 had been instrumental in promotin this project. The rosarium was established in 1961. The International Rose Compeition of The Hague is held every July in the Rosarium.
