Cottage and a bit formal garden. Zone 6a, 12 miles north of Boston. My obsession with gardening started with Oriental Lilies in 2005, then Day lilies, fruit trees, honeysuckle, hydrangeas (PennyMac is reliable bloomer) and now roses. I have a huge maple that provides shade in the middle of the day, so placement of roses is tricky. I tend to lean towards gallicas and disease resistant (aka shade tolerant) varieties of roses. I absolutely fell in love with Paul Barden’s Allegra and Marianne. I am reading all about beneficial bugs and planted everything that would attract them (yarrow, alyssum and such). I can tell you that this is the first year I have seen so many lady bug larvae. They completely took care of the aphids. I would love to connect with other rose growers in zone 6.
