The Sangerhausen of the West The San Jose Heritage Rose Garden is a world-class collection of almost 5,000 plants of more than 3,100 varieties of heritage, modern and miniature roses, initially plnted by more than 750 volunteers in March, 1995. It is a joint venture of the City of San Jose, the South Bay Heritage Rose Group, the Guadalupe River Park and Gardens Corporation, and the many civic volunteers who continue to propagate, fertilize, prune, weed, catalog and care for this precious collection of roses. The Santa Clara University One-Half Mile Climbing Rose Fence is a part of this collection. Peak bloom times: Teas & Chinas - End of March Modern Roses - End of April European OGRs - Mid May Fall Flush - mid October There are always roses blooming in the Heritage! The rose list is incomplete as a large number of the roses were received with unknown identities and no study names. A challenge to the studious rosarian!
