1727-1817. Born in Leiden, The Netherlands, von Jacquin was a Dutch scientist with wide-ranging interests, including Botany. Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, sent him to the New World to collect plants for the Schönbrunn Palace. Jacquin became professor of Botany and Director of the botanical gardens at the University of Vienna. Three of his works are available through the Missouri Botanical Garden's online library, botanicus.org.

[From Herbier général de l'amateur, Vol. I, 1816, p. iij:] Bientôt après, en 1770, M. Jacquin enrichit la Botanique de son magnifique ouvrage du Jardin de Vienne, contenant, dans trois volumes in-folio , trois cents figures coloriées, représentant autant de plantes....
Quelques années plus tard, de 1781 à 1703, il publia ses Îcones rariorum plantarum ; qui renferment les figures de six cent quarante-huit plantes , dont l'exécution est aussi soignée et aussi belle que celle de ses précédentes collections.
