'Comtesse du Cayla' rose Reviews & Comments

Hi, I am trying to identify a rose that was part of a bouquet. I think it looks like Comtesse Du Cayla. The cut flowers had a light scent that reminded me of bananas. Can someone confirm that ?

No, I do not remember that. Checking the banana scent it seems to be comprised of amyl butylate, amyl acetate and ethyl butyrate. These are not components found in the fragrance of 'Comtesse de Cayla' (see the 2007 reference). CdC has a typical tea rose fragrance.

Thank you Jedmar, your answer is so clear. Maybe I do not have the best nose ! I related the scent to banana, but in a very discreet way, not the heavy artificial banana, actually something between apple and banana to me... The bouquet wasn't offered to me, I just picked some flowers for propagation. Archiduke Joseph is starting to develop some scent in my garden, otherwise the Tea scent is still a vague concept to me ! I join some pictures, the petal count, bloom colours, fluffy receptacles look similar I think, can you think of another rose ? Best regards, Thomas.

I understand your point - it does look like 'Comtesse du Cayla'. But also like 'Mme Eugène Resal' and 'Mme Laurette Messimy'! These three teas from Pierre Guillot are so alike and so variable, that I cannot tell them apart. Here some photos of the three:

To illustrate the variability, these are also the same plants

Thank you Jedmar, this is very helpful ! Great color on the fifth picture ! Is the fourth Comtesse du Cayla ? I am going to have a look at all three roses and look for some clues... I noticed the rose suddenly lost its firmness two days after being cut, maybe this affected the scent. Also the leaves looked so "flat" and neat, maybe due to season... Than you again for the tracks, Thomas.

If you click on the photos, you can see the names. The fourth picture is 'Mme Eugéne Resal'

Oh, I didn't see the names ! Looking at the site's pictures, Comtesse du Cayla seemed to have less rounded receptacles than the two others, but apparently this is not a reliable feature... I took cuttings so I may be able to see it grow and evolve. Thank you Jedmar.
