Dianne! What a lovely picture you captured of this one! I had never heard of this one but just got the Antique Rose Emp catalog and was looking at it longingly (as we were just -11 again last night and more snow on the way to start March). Dianne, you have grown so many! Do YOU have any guesses as to who/what Nacogdoches may truly be??? In the threads someone suggested Sunblest and looking at the pics here, that is a great guess. Especially with the paler, glossier leaf which Sunblest absolutely does have. For SURE it is NOT Celebrity which I have grown and which has some pink or even thin red to the petal edge. OREGOLD is very easy to identify: huge, ugly thorns and very glossy, very disease prone very dark foliage. Pretty sure it is not Oregold. With the WHITE on the outer petals I am going to throw NEW DAY/MABELLA, the J&P Rose of the Year 1977, into the kitty. There is a squareness to New Day's blossom that is suggested in some of the pics of Nacogdoches and that white to the outer petal is common with New Day. Furthermore, NEW DAY was a Kordes creation and others have noted what seems to be Kordes in the traits with Nacogdoches. Having been discovered in a hotel strip, in all probability it is NOT something too esoteric at least not upon release. Most likely something easily purchased at a garden center or big box discount chain. So many yellows out there! If it were Buccaneer it would be like 8 feet tall in Texas and the blooms would fade very badly. ALLSPICE, Dianne? I doubt it but a candidate? But gets too tall??? Same with Selfridges, just gets wayyyy too tall even in Ohio. Lowell Thomas, Mme. Marie Curie? Summer Sunshine has greyer foliage than I see here. The plant I the pics looks more on the modern side, I would say post 1965? Would love to hear YOUR views and everyone else's as well as this one has not been commented on in almost 4 years.
