[From Roll Call: The Old Rose Breeder, p. 343:] Auguste MiellezEsquermes-lès-Lille, France Introduced, in 1851, the consummate Peony 'Festiva Maxima'. [From Visions of Loveliness by Judith M. Taylor, 2014, p. 78:] "Auguste Miellez was also a very important person in the horticulture field. He bred many excellent peonies, for example, and clearly understood what was involved. Quite possibly he influenced Lemoine when it came to breeding peonies."
