1982 New Zealand Rose Annual p71 John Martin was born and brought up in England....tried farming before coming to Gandy's Roses Nursery near Rugby in the English Midlands. Mr. Martin stayed here eleven years, the last three as Nursery manager. In 1971 Mr. Martin came to New Zealand to live.... [He bred 'Sweet Velvet' and 'Golden Shot' before coming to New Zealand]
