Raised in Scotland, George Forrest started as a clerk at the herbarium of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh in 1903. From 1904 until his death in China in 1932, Forrest made seven journeys to China, Tibert, and Burma to collect plants and seed. He catalogued 1200 plant species, included many Asian roses.
