Holker Hall Cartmel, Cumbria United Kingdom
From "Collins Book of British Gardens", by George Plumtre, 1985, p. 345: "....climbing rose, given to Mrs Player [Jean Mary Loder (b. September 17, 1919), married Stephen Dane Player of Ednaston Manor, Brailsford, Derbyshire on January 31, 1939] by Mrs Cavendish from Holker Hall in Cumbria [Pamela June Thomas (d. April 4, 2006) married Richard Edward Osborne Cavendish on December 16, 1937]. Uncertain of the rose's name they decided to call it the 'Ednaston' rose."
Holker Hall dates back to the early 16th century as the home of the Preston family. It passed in 1756 by inheritance to the Cavendish Family, which still owns it. The house was largely rebuilt in 1838-41 and an Arboretum, conservatory, and a walled garden added. Many plants were introduced by Lady Moyra de Vere Beauclerk Cavendish (January 20, 1876 - February 7, 1942), mother-in-law of Pamela June Cavendish. She had married Lord Richard Frederick Cavendish on July 31, 1895.
