Georg August Schweinfurth (December 29, 1836 Riga - September 19, 1925 Berlin), Baltic-German botanist and Africa explorer ("Schweinf."). [From The Egyptian Garden Roses in Schweinfurth's Herbarium, by Gunnar Täckholm, Svensl Botanisk Tidskrift, Vol. 26, 1932, p. 348:] Dr. Georg Schweinfurth was born in Riga in 1836 and died in Berlin in 1925. He spent most of his life in Egypt from his first expedition, which started in 1863, until 1914. His collections of Egyptian plants in the Botanical Museum, Berlin-Dahlem, are the most complete existing.
