[From the Annual Report of the State Board of Agriculture, Mass., 1899, p. 156:] Both Mr. Montgomery and his father, who is in charge of the Waban conservatories...

[From The Gardeners' Chronicle, 1906, Vol. 40, p. 446:] Mr. Montgomery's son, Alex., Jr., is the author of a monograph on The Grafting of Roses.

[From the American Rose Annual 1927, p. 56, [PHOTO] Plate VIII, p. 229:] Alexander Montgomery, of Hadley, Mass[achusetts]... the hybridizer who has produced 'Hadley,' 'Commonwealth,' 'Crusader,' 'Pilgrim,' 'Templar,' and other important roses...

[From Year Book of the Rose Society of Ontario 1928, p. 43:] A great loss to the rose world occurred on the 22nd of October when Mr. Alexander W. Montgomery, of Hadley, Mass., passed away. He and his father were the originators of many of the finest Hybrid Tea roses - Hadley, Mrs. Chas. Russell, Templar, Crusader, Pricilla, were some of their most successful discoveries. His latest Hybrid “Talisman,” a seedling of Pernet and Butterfly, is expected to be disseminated next year. His death at the early age of 52, will be regretted by all rose lovers.
