I have been growing roses for years and years. I have a small no-spray garden on a corner of my lot that gets lots of foot traffic and I grow Ramblers and troublesome specimens in my private backyard garden.
I gave up spraying roses (or anything) a long time ago and have not looked back. I enjoy all the wildlife that has arrived as a result. I love watching a cottontail nibble up rose petals. I get a few butterflies as well despite not being near a butterfly-way.
I did have a problem with leaf hoppers summer 2019, I was SO TEMPTED to use a pesticide. I did not.
I grow mostly fragrant roses (lots of David Austins) and old roses. I also like some of the newer Floribundas.
I commissioned a rose naming from Brad Jalbert (Select Roses) to honour my Father's sacrifice and love for my mother. That rose is a sister of the now famous Royal City Rose and I named it 'Devotion.' It is a vigorous floribunda that bears many tea-form blooms one per stem! Its a bloom machine! His favourite rose was Tiffany. This resembles it in bloom form.
I take rose photos (well the roses do that work!)
I'm an on again off again rose/garden club member.
I'm a wildlife advocate and have committed to providing wildlife habitat (small as it may be) at my suburban home in the PNW.
