This is a free-standing specimen of Darlow's Enigma, grown in full sun. Approximately 8 years old, it currently stands 10 feet tall and 12 feet across. It received no care other than watering during the driest part of the Summer. It does not have any support: it is fully capable of being self-supporting when grown in full sun.

was divine for about 4 weeks each spring in the coveted eastern bed. the rest of the year was not so divine, with arching octopus arms and blackspotted foliage in the semi-shady spot. took up too much premium real estate, so was relegated to a back alley position. has suffered ever since, with not a bloom. i sometimes regret this decision and perhaps another move to the Old European bed is in order. 21012, death by drought

Félicie from Vintage Gardens (almost 7cm) is not the small purple flower of the Gallica, nor is it a Portland, but probably a Hybrid China.
