Origin:
Bred by Massimiliano Lodi (1863-1930) (Italy, before 1909).
Introduced in Italy by Gaetano Bonfiglioli e figlio in 1909 as 'Variegata di Bologna'.
Class:
Bourbon.  
Bloom:
White, cherry-red stripes.  Strong fragrance.  up to 50 petals.  Average diameter 4".  Large, very full (41+ petals), borne mostly solitary, globular bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:

Height: 6' to 10' (185 to 305cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 5b through 9b.  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to blackspot .  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
The seed parent was an unnamed variety of Moscata. Refer 1909 reference.
'Variegata di Bologna's tendency to revert is certainly due to the fact that the pollen parent ('Pride of Reigate') was a sport of 'Comtesse d’Oxford'.
Despite the official parentage, 'Variegata di Bologna' is possibly a direct sport of the bourbon 'Victor Emmanuel' - see References.
