Named for the French historian Henri Martin (February 20, 1810 Saint-Quentin - December 14, 1883 Paris), who wrote a 13-volume "Histoire de France" in 1833-1836. Henri Martin was later also vice-president of the Union Franco-Américaine, which in 1875 proposed and had the Statue of Liberty built 1881-1886 as a present to the U.S.A.
