Notes:
Parentage of 'Black Swan' is stated in the 1969 APS-Registration as "Chocolate Soldier x Back Cross x Black Velvet x Chocolate Soldier. (Note: Black Velvet originated from B. Cross x Chocolate Soldier.)"
Back Cross or B. Cross is not a peony of this name, but a seedling originated by backcrossing 'Chocolate Soldier' with one of its parents. As the parents of 'Chocolate Soldier' are an unknown lactiflora x P. officinalis, the backcrossing can only have been done with the known parent, i.e. P. officinalis.
