It isn't uncommon to see blooms with few or even no crown petals or petaloids, i.e. the blooms are more semi-double or even single form.

When the blooms have few or no crown petals, the stamens and carpels are well exposed. The cherry red stigmas atop yellow-green carpels add a bright note of color to the blooms.
