Talisman  The Montgomery Company of Hadley, Massachusetts, did not breed a long list of roses, but they had a widely grown red Hybrid Tea, 'Hadley', and one of the most important varieties for the cut flower market in 'Talisman'. This came from 'Ophelia' x 'Souvenir de Claudius Pernet', and was introduced in 1929.
'Talisman' was notable for its even height, every shoot apparently deciding to produce a bloom upon the same level; many shoots were produced, and therefore the number of blooms per plant was high, and important consideration for a market rose. Indeed before anyone will plant his valuable greenhouse with a fresh variety, he expects to arrive at an exact idea of how many flowers it should yield per square metre per annum. The flowers were surprisingly small and thin for a successful market rose.  They were yellow with flushes of pink and red, quite variable; This rose produced thirty-nine sports, in continuance of the family tendency of 'Ophelia'.  One of the prettiest was the red 'Mary Hart' from George B. Hart of Rochester, New York in 1931.

Talisman. Still another tribute to Ophelia, for in Talisman (her daughter) is found all the qualities of a good garden and decorative rose. The growth is tall and healthy while productiveness puts her in the commercial cut flower class, which is a tribute of a very high order.

p111.  Mr. A. Brundrett, Narre Warren North, Vic.  Six Indispensables
Talisman is certainly the best autumn shaded variety, with a combination of colours that is so attractive in the bud stage. Good foliage, long stems, and erect growth are its strong points, and spring " coarseness" its weakness.
