A panel of twenty judges examines the roses there at intervals throughout the season from June to September over two or three successive years. The Society's Gold Medal is awarded to very few roses and only to those of quite exceptional quality. Only two or three medals are awarded each year; in some years, when no worthy contender is found, no medal is awarded...
