Excellent nursery! I am enjoying roses on their own roots. Soo necessary for Michigan winters! Thank you, Great Lakes Roses.

A google search on "USDA climate zones" yields many places to view the climate zone map. Here is a site that I like:

On the bottom of the (green) navigation menu you'll find a item for "Links". These are website links to other sites of interesting and/or useful information. Included there are links for USDA climate zones - including the one mentioned by Nancy (thanks Nancy!). We like these too.

A few years ago I read about an actual blue rose that was going to be introduced. I do not know what its name is or who bred it but does anyone have any information as to where to find such a rose.

At this time, roses do not carry the gene for the color blue so there are no blue roses.

Hi,
I haven't much experience with roses and am in the process of choosing those which I most desire. I noticed several letters posted next to the names in your alphabetical listing. What do they stand for, and will they help me in making my choices?

See the legend at the bottom of the page.

The legend will tell you about the kind of information on the rose page, but as for choosing your roses, HelpMeFind can give you the information about the rose which was provided when the rose was registered or introduced by a nursery. Be sure to click the tab at the top of the rose page labeled "References" to get more information about the rose.

Also, a good source of information about roses that grow well in your area is the local chapeter of the American Rose Society. Some roses do very well in some climates and are horrible in others. It's best to ask the people who live near you for advice as to which roses do well in your area.

Another way to find out which roses are good in your area is to visit public gardens. Then you have a chance to see the rose in bloom.

Smiles,

Lyn

Hi,

I live in southeast Michigan and have purchased roses from Great Lakes Roses and now will only buy plants from them. They are helpful. If it is not out of reason, it is worth a drive out there.. But please, check with them for their hours.
