Bred by Unknown (before 1790).
Introduced in France by Cels frères in before 1817 as 'Rosa damascena mutabilis'.

Damask.  

Light pink, golden-yellow stamens, ages to white .  Strong, damask fragrance.  Average diameter 2.75".  Semi-double (9-16 petals), cluster-flowered, in small clusters bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  

Suckers on its own roots, upright.  

Height: 3' to 6' (90 to 185cm).  Width: 3' to 5' (90 to 150cm).

USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Can be used for garden.  Vigorous.  Prune after flowering is finished.  

Tetraploid

The name honors a prominent Paris nurseryman, M.F. Cels, who is said to have introduced this rose from Holland.

Pépinières Loubert's 2002 Catalog assigns a date of pre-1732.
