Village Maid Medium to fairly large, 2 1/2 to 3 in. Palest rose, and lilac-rose stripes, shape globular of cabbage style, very fragrant. Pedicel glandular, hip less so; calyx a little beyond bud, tip twisted, numerous wings, all heavily glanded. Leaves medium, mid-green downy below, folded up, mid-rib thorny. Wood green, very thorny, large and small, and glands. Makes a low bush, very free, and the first of striped roses to flower in my collection.

These Roses grow in almost any situation; their beauty is, however, much increased under good cultivation. The flowers are remarkable for their delightful fragrance and diversity of their hues. They require moderately close pruning and abundance of manure for successful cultivation.

Village Maid ('La Rubanée') Gallica. Flowers white striped with rose and purple, the stripes varying in breadth, sometimes the one and sometimes the other colour predominating, large and full; form cupped; habit pendulous; growth small. Very pleasing.
