'Cocorico' A polyantha rose of 'Karen Poulsen' type, but taller, and of an intensive tile-red colour. The wealth of large, single, strongly-coloured blooms, and its healthy; prolific growth, will certainly secure this rose a place in many a garden of the future. Very tall.

Harry H. Hazlewood.  The New Roses of 1953.
Cocorico (Meilland 1951). Vivid large 6-8 petalled orange scarlet blooms in clusters which compel instant attention. The colour is somewhat like 'Gertrud Westphal' but the growth is taller than that variety. Another point of difference is that the filaments which support the stamens in 'Gertrud Westphal' have a purplish shade which in 'Cocorico' are the normal yellow. Translated from the French the name could be rendered "Cock-a-doodle-doo," which suggests note of triumph over the success achieved.
