Bred by Louis-Xavier Granger (France, before 1864).
Introduced in France by Charles-FĂ©lix Verdier in 1864 as 'Duc de Wellington'.
Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1873 as 'Duke of Wellington'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Dark red, crimson shading, red center.  Strong fragrance.  Average diameter 4".  Large, full (26-40 petals), cupped, high-centered bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:

Height: 4' (120cm).  Width: 3' (90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b and warmer.  Plant in partial shade for best color.  shade tolerant.
