Hybrid Tea Roses.
This class is of recent origin.  They are produced from crossing Tea with Hybrid Perpetual Roses, and while a few denote well defined traits of both races, others seem to be pure Teas.  Many are of very weak growth and bad color, hence we have rejected the greater number as undesirable.  The following are valuable:
Cheshunt Hybrid.  Cherry carmine, shaded violet, of vigorous growth and free Spring bloomer.
Book  (1880)  Page(s) Annex, p. 28.

tea, hybrid bourbon, CHESHUNT-HYBRIDE (Paul & Son, 1874), dark carmine-red, reverse lighter, cup form, large, double.

The Tea-scented Roses are a subdivision of the China section, and are remarkable for their fragrance.  They embrace a large number of favourite Roses, and are extensively cultivated.  The following selection includes some of the most popular varieties:
Cheshunt Hybrid — A vigorous growing free blooming variety, and makes an excellent pillar Rose.  Flowers bright ruddy carmine.
Magazine  (1878)  Page(s) 38.

Among Tea Roses there has been a much greater advance even, than among the Perpetuals.  The following comprise the finest new sorts:
...Cheshunt Hybrid (1873)...

In Aline Sisley, Cheshunt Hybrid and Duchess of Edinburg [sic], we have three red and crimson Teas darker in color than any of the old varieties, and affording a pleasing contrast to those of delicate light tints.  Cheshunt Hybrid has also proved a fine green-house climber, and as it is hardy, would probably do well as a climber out of doors.
Magazine  (15 May 1875)  Page(s) 405.

New Tea Roses.
There have been several fine additions to the Tea-scented section within the last two or three years. The cream of these are probably comprised in the following: [...]
Cheshunt Hybrid and Duchess of Edinburgh are dark red Teas; the first has the better form, the Duchess is rather brighter in colour, but both are good and valuable additions to the Tea section.
Magazine  (Jun 1873)  Page(s) 168.

Notes on New Roses.
Cheshunt Hybrid (Tea). — A very distinct and beautiful English raised rose. It is a seedling from Madame de Tartas, a little known tea-scented variety, crossed with a hybrid perpetual. It is assuredly a grand rose, for the flowers, whilst of the rich dark colour and fine form of the hybrid perpetual, possess the delicate perfume of the tea rose. In vigour of growth it is equal to Blairi No. 2, so that it will be a most valuable climbing rose.
