Origin:
Bred by Pierre-Hubert Portemer père (France, 1845).
Introduced in Australia by John J. Rule, Victoria Nursery in 1857 as 'Paul Ricaut'.
Class:
Hybrid Bourbon, Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Carmine-red.  Sets no hips..  Strong, old rose fragrance.  Large, full (26-40 petals), globular bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, suckers on its own roots.  

Height: 4' to 6' (120 to 185cm).  Width: 3' (90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Prune after flowering is finished.
