Bred by Joseph Pernet-Ducher (France, before 1928).
Introduced in France by Jean-Marie Gaujard in 1938 as 'Reine Astrid'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1939 as 'Reine Astrid'.
Class:
Pernetiana.  
Bloom:
Dark red, golden-yellow reverse, copper shading.  Strong fragrance.  Full (26-40 petals), cupped, globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long, pointed buds.  
Habit:
Bushy, well-branched.  Glossy foliage.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).

Notes:
Princess Astrid Sofia Lovisa Thry of Sweden (November 17, 1905 Stockholm - August 29, 1935 Küsnacht, Switzerland), married on November 4, 1926 Prince Leopold of Belgium (November 2, 1901 Brussels - September 25, 1983 Sint-Lambrechts-Woluve), who was crowned King Léopold III in 1934. Queen Astrid died in a car accident of the couple the following year.
