Origin:
Bred by Jan Böhm (Czechoslovakia (former), before 1934).
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1936 as 'Genius Mendel'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Red, orange shading.  Strong fragrance.  Very large, double (17-25 petals), high-centered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Bushy, well-branched.  Glossy foliage.  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Hardy.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Gregor Mendel was born on 22 July 1822 in Heizendorf, Austria. His theories of heredity were based on his work with pea plants. Mendel was the first person to trace the characteristics of successive generations of a living thing. He died in Brno, Austria, on 6 January 1884.
