Bred by William Paul (1822-1905) (United Kingdom, 1886).
Introduced in Australia by C. F. Newman and Sons - Adelaide in 1894 as 'Grand Mogul'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Carmine-red, scarlet shading, darker shading.  Maroon in autumn.  Large, full (26-40 petals) bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  
Growing:
USDA zone 4a through 5b.

Notes:
Said to be similar to 'Jean Soupert'.
