Introduced in United States by The Uncommon Rose Historic Archive as 'Ellen Tofflemire'.

Gallica / Provins.  
Bloom:
Mauve or purple blend.  Mild fragrance.  41 petals.  Average diameter 3.5".  Medium, very full (41+ petals), in small clusters bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Short, bushy, upright.  Medium, matte, medium green foliage.  

Height: 3' to 4' (90 to 120cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 8b.  Can be used for beds and borders, garden, shrub or specimen.  Very hardy.  plant in partial shade for best color.  shade tolerant.  Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant.  Prune after flowering is finished.  Prune lightly or not at all.  Remove unproductive wood every third year or so.  This rose blooms on old wood.  
Breeder's notes:
Note that in the Ratings section several commentors rate this rose poorly for Bloom Frequency, which leads me to believe that some people don't realize this is a GALLICA, and as such is a ONCE-bloomer. Please keep that in mind when considering this rose for your garden.

This rose is NOT bred as a cut flower or a show rose either; it is a GARDEN shrub, a usage for which it is ideally suited.
