Bred by Louis-Xavier Granger (France, before 1853).
Introduced in Australia by George J. Smith, Royal Exotic Nursery in 1862 as 'Empereur Napoléon'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Crimson, dark brown shading, red highlights.  None to mild fragrance.  Medium to large, double (17-25 petals), flat bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Rounded buds.  
Habit:
Few or no prickles/thorns.  Dark green foliage.  3 to 5 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
