Not at all....it will blackspot and drop every leaf within a week. I'm just south of Sav, Ga--same hot and humid climate I'm sure. GB was beautiful in the spring until June. It is in the open with great air circulation. For 2 years I had it in full sun--was 30% covered with BS even with lime sulfer, spraying, and systemic! (I thought I'd kill it)...it is now 2x2 and in light dappled shade of a tall alba--bad leaf drop and completely covered with BS and flowers! This rose must be sprayed regularly...don't be late or it will defoliate. Shame, because it is SO floriferous. New buds all over before the previous blooms are done non-stop! It's going in a tall pot on the deck this fall...away from the ground. Hope that does the trick.

9-13-11 I removed it........

I've now grown this rose for 3 years (just beginning the fourth) and it's lived up to my earlier comments. The only drawback is the lack of size. The plant is only 2 feet tall and wide, but I think it takes so long to grow into a larger plant because all the energy is spent on bloom production. I've had little to no dieback in my zone 6 garden without protection. Every year the plant blooms non-stop from late May till late October. A workhorse rose for the front of the border.

Is it possible to find Paul Barden's roses in Europe? I am living in Belgium. Moreover, I am fond of old-style rose, English roses, and Mr Barden is offering so nice plants that I cannot resist and would like to have these in my Old roses garden. As I always wanted to thank Mr David Austin for all his work, I want to thank Paul Barden as well. He is doing a great job.

I planted this rose very early this year...it is VERY slow growing, spindly thin twigs, and lacking vigor. It's only 4 inches bigger than when I planted the band where as everything else has had multiple cut-backs. It needed lots of fertilizer to green it up and encourage growth (just a leaflet or two). Seems that it will bloom at the expense of growing and will produce 3 or so 4" flowers on a band sized plant if you let it---I pinched most buds off to encourage growth. It blackspots moderately even with spray. However, the blooms are beautiful, and given the choice I'd buy it again. I'll baby this plant to see what the 3rd year brings.
