Spring 2014. Two year old plant. Zone 7b. Color variation on Marie Van Houtte. She grows in the hottest, driest, sunniest area of my garden and in the worst of my soils. Imagine red. baked. clay. I'm amending as fast as I can and Marie continues to be generous and thankful where many other roses would not be able to do very much.

Spring 2014. Two year old plant. Zone 7b. Healthy, good rebloom. Very very elegant. (My photos of her are not the best, unfortunately.) On fragrance: during her first year in my garden she had no apparent fragrance. During the spring of the second year, if I went out first thing in the morning and caught a newly opening bud, there was fragrance -- but nothing during the later the part of the day. Interestingly, as summer began to wane, she was fragrant all the time, no matter what stage of bloom or what time of day.
