Discovered by Franz Maly (Austria-Hungary (former), before 1869).
Class:
Species Cross.  
Bloom:
Deep pink.  Deep pink with small white blotch at petal base.  Average diameter 1.25".  Small to medium, single (4-8 petals) bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Upright.  Matte foliage.  7 to 9 leaflets.  

Height: up to 1' (up to 30cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Produces decorative hips.

Notes:
Discovered by the Court gardener Franz Maly in Monte Santo and higher Dalmatian mountains.
From the curator of the University of Helsinki Botanical Museum:
'Kempeleen Kaunotar' is a strain of Rosa x malyi selected by the Kempele nursery of northern Finland 20 km south of larger city of Oulu by the Bothnian Bay. Rosa x malyi is thought to occur naturally in the Austrian Alps.

GST lists the parentage of Rosa x malyi as R. pimpinellifolia x R. pendulina at p. 113.
