'Meg Merrilies' rose Description

Deep pink. Registration name: Meg Merrilies (Hybrid Rubiginosa, Penzance 1894)
Bloom:
Deep pink to crimson. Moderate fragrance. Medium, single to semi-double, cluster-flowered bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.
Habit:
Bushy, climbing. Medium, dark green, fragrant foliage.
Height: 8' to 10' (245 to 305cm). Width: 7' (215cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Vigorous.

Notes:
Nigel Pratt of Tasman Bay Roses says this rose has semi-double flowers of crimson-pink followed by attractive red hips... Different opinions on parentage, see References. Meg Merrilies is a gypsy in Sir Walter Scott's novel "Guy Mannering" (1815). There is also a poem by John Keats about her (ca. 1818). See also 'Dominie Sampson'
