Bred by Lord Penzance (United Kingdom, 1894).
Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1896 as 'Meg Merrilies'.

Hybrid Rubiginosa.  
Bloom:
Deep pink to crimson.  Moderate fragrance.  Medium, single to semi-double, cluster-flowered bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Bushy, climbing.  Medium, dark green, fragrant foliage.  

Height: 8' to 10' (245 to 305cm).  Width: 7' (215cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Vigorous.

Nigel Pratt of Tasman Bay Roses says this rose has semi-double flowers of crimson-pink followed by attractive red hips...
