Introduced in United Kingdom by Peter Beales Roses in 1990 as 'Awakening'.
Introduced in Canada by Hortico Inc. in 1992 as 'Awakening'.
Class:
Climber, Hybrid Wichurana, Large-Flowered Climber.  
Bloom:
Light pink, salmon-pink shading.  Mild to strong fragrance.  up to 40 petals.  Average diameter 4".  Large, full (26-40 petals) bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Climbing.  

Height: 8' to 14' (245 to 425cm).  Width: 8' to 10' (245 to 305cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 5b through 9b.  Shade tolerant.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .  Can be grown in the ground or in a container (container requires winter protection).  Prune after flowering is finished.

Arena Rose Co.'s Catalog 2000 says Awakening was collected in Czechoslovakia by former RNRS President Dick Balfour during 1988. It is essentially the quartered form of the venerable climber, 'New Dawn' -- which it resembles in every way other than petal count...
