We've had the Shreveport along the front walk of this house - in Alexandria VA - for about 15 years now. Our winters are certainly NOT like Colorado's winters - but we DO get a fair amount of freezing temperatures and we DO get a fair amount of snow during some winters ... and ice storms in this area are famous. We've had no problems with the plants and we do nothing special with regard to winter protection.

When we bought the plants they were available from Jackson and Perkins in their boxed rose packages. They've recently told me that they are no longer an offered selection of theirs. Too bad. It's a wonderful performer.

Good luck.

I had a sheveport rose for many years while I lived in New Jersey. We had many snow storms and many days and nights below freezing. We are now living in Nevada and I would like to find another shreveport rose for my garden if I can find a nursery that sells it.

Have you tried the rose search ? Just click on "Roses" on the navigation bar to the left and put 'Shreveport' in the search field. A link to the rose page will come up. Click the link and then click the BUY FROM tab in the upper right hand portion of the rose page. You will see a list of nurseries which have indicated that they carry this rose in their inventory.

Smiles,
Lyn

It would be very helpful when people post pictures and then give a "POOR" rating of the rose, that they go to the "Reviews & Comments" tab and post a message telling why they gave the rose such a low rating.
I guess likewise if the rose performed well enough for you to give an "Excellent" rating it would be nice to hear what characteristics of that rose made it earn the "Excellent" rating as well.
In this case, "Marco Polo" was listed as "Poor" by three people posting photos of the rose but there are no reasons given.
Just my two cents...
John
