Bred by Hippolyte Duval (France, before 1841).
Introduced in France by Jean-Pierre Vibert in 1845 as 'Abailard'.

Gallica / Provins.  

Red, streaks, stripes, flecks, purple shading, white flecks.  Strong fragrance.  Medium, full (26-40 petals), in small clusters, quartered, reflexed bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  

Dark green foliage.  

Prune after flowering is finished.  This rose blooms on old wood.
