Bloom:
Light pink. Mild fragrance. Small to medium, single (4-8 petals), borne mostly solitary bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, suckers on its own roots. Matte foliage.
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
In February 2017, I soaked 46 open-pollinated seeds of a local R. palustris specimen in a 15 ul solution of oryzalin. 3 out of the 46 germinated. One died and the two remaining became "Hershey Hips" and its unnamed sibling.
This seedling was so named because instead of the round hips usually seen in my local R. palustris, the hips of "Hershey Hips" have an exaggerated, fluted shape that resemble Hershey's kisses.
"Hershey Hips" is seed fertile and aside from the hip shape, is morphologically indistinguishable from the other local R. palustris. I have not had its ploidy counted.
