Bred by Unknown (before 1837).

Bloom:

Crimson or red, purple shading. Large, very double, cupped bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.

Notes:

Possibly named for the Dutch city, Heissen.

Late references change the spelling to van Huyssum, possibly influenced by the name of the Belgian flower painter. The attribution of this rose to Parmentier is also suspiciously late, and probably due to a confusion with his rose, 'Van Hulthem', which see. See REFERENCES.

'Van Huyssum' in Sangerhausen seems to be mislabeled.
