Origin:
Bred by Hans Jürgen Evers (1940-2007) (Germany, before 1988).
Introduced in Germany by Rosen-Tantau/Tantau Roses in 1988 as 'Taboo'.
Introduced in United States by Bear Creek Gardens, Inc. in 1994 as 'Barkarole'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Dark red, darker veining.  Moderate fragrance.  26 to 40 petals.  Average diameter 5".  Large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, high-centered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Medium, long, pointed buds.  
Habit:
Tall, few or no prickles/thorns, upright, well-branched.  Large, glossy, dark green foliage.  

Height: 3' to 5'7" (90 to 170cm).  Width: 2' (60cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Can be used for cut flower, garden or pillar.  Hardy.  vigorous.  rain tolerant.  Disease susceptibility: blackspot resistant, susceptible to Mildew.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .  Can be grown in the ground or in a container (container requires winter protection).
