Deb has always been a Betty Boop (cartoon) fan. She saw an own root BB at a local nursery in 2000. I'm not a singles (I know... BB is semi double) fan but Deb was going to bring her home whether I liked it or not. I have come to like this rose. She isn't cane hardy but takes winter well and spring growth is as vigorous as any of our roses. Betty is among the first to bloom and she is a blooming fool. She has 100+ blooms per flush and turnaround time is fast, 4 - 5 weeks. The yellow in newly opened blooms fades pretty quick and stamen turn brown in a day or two. Fragrance is slight to my nose. Deb says fragrance is a little better than slight. Betty has been a well behaved bush and gets 3 to 4 feet tall x 5 feet wide. The bush looks full and is usually pretty symmetric without us shaping her. Blackspot isn't a problem here. The only time I think I saw powdery mildew on her was in 2001 when Deb and I were working out of town and only got home on weekends. PM wasn't bad then. I was just surprised to see any on her. I see variation in the degree of yellow this rose expresses. What are the conditions that encourage the yellow versus the white center? How much shade, what is the rose fed, what is the soil type that seems associated with each color?

when first open this rose has a good degree of yellow in the center of the petals. This changes as the bloom ages. The rose is definitely eye catching.

I have seen different pictures of this rose. Some are flat looking flowers and some are fuller looking. Are there different varieties of this rose? Or is it the different stages of bloom that the pictures are taken? I would like to have the fuller looking one if it exists. Thanks,Holly

THIS IS A SINGLE ROSE (12 PETALS OR LESS) AND DIFFENT PICTURES CAPTURE VARIOUS STAGES OF THE BLOOM. ON THIS SITE SECOND ROW FIRST PICTURE IS NORMAL FRESH BLOOM AS IS 2ND PICTURE IN THE THIRD ROW. other pictures capture it from the side or later in its life. But this rose stays in bloom if you keep cutting off the old ones. you will be pleased if you buy it. aloha, mike

Reblooms quickly without deadheading or shaping. Consistent in all climates (courtesy Weeks Roses).
