I have had two scentimental roses in my garden for four years now. I was very surprised to see how many people really liked this rose. I have approximately 18 different roses and I am pleased with most, except Scentimental. Scentimental has a great scent and the blooms are attractive. But I have the following complaints about this roses; the bloom form blows apart quickly, it does not have nearly the proliferation of bloom or repeat of any of my other floribunda, and it seems to have a weakness for blackspot. If this rose grows fine for you, wonderful. I just needed to get my opinion out there for others in zone 6 that might be considering this rose.

Thank you for posting your comment. I have updated the rose page to show that this rose can get blackspot.

Smiles,

I agree with you, Gayle. I love the flowers when the weather is good and even won top prize in a local garden club show with it, but the blooms blow out in rain, and it has never been a big producer. I have two plants, one planted about 4 years ago, one planted 2 years ago. It is very prone to blackspot, despite spraying. I'm wondering how Scentimental compares to George Burns?

Why is the greenery of my scentimental rose bush turning red? I planted it in a container with Miracle Gro rose dirt and organic hummus and manure.

Some roses new growth is red. Is the red only the new growth? If so, this is totally normal and a good sign of a healthy growing rose :)

Why do my potted specimens of this rose suffer so severly from rust & blackspot?
Nothing I do seems to halt the onslaught!
Great flowers though & the perfume unbelievable!

Roses are really not happy in a container as they like to have cool, damp roots and pots tend to make their roots warm. This causes the rose to be weak and when a rose is weak then insects and disease will attack it.

This rose is beautiful and the smell is wonderful. But, the blooms do not last long and they do not hold up well in the rain.
