p30 John Martin. I believe the characteristics of truss formation in such varieties as 'Auckland Metro' and 'New Zealand' is a break-through, giving many more flowers per plant and a greater show in the garden. The influence of these and other roses will be very strong in the new varieties of the 21st century, and I predict the fragrance of 'New Zealand' will permeate a whole new generation of roses in the next few years.

p111 Nola Simpson. Final Analysis 1994-95
'Aotearoa NZ' (MACgenev); McGredy 1990; 'Harmonie' x 'Auckland Metro'; pale coral pink; 153 reports on 279 bushes; 1-6 years; 1.3 metres; 7.5 rating. A rose that has had a lot of publicity since its release in 1990 and has received variable reports over the five years. Many reporters were dissatisfied with the plants they received from nurseries and have struggled with weak bushes. Generally it is a very healthy rose with a marvellous fragrance and performs especially well in the autumn. Blooms are of exhibition form and are an attractive soft creamy pink foiled by dark glossy foliage. It does best in the drier areas of New Zealand, lots of disbudding is required, repeat can be rather slow. The flowers very prone to balling in wet weather and flop over when over half open.

Hutt Valley doubts it will be the rose of the decade as predicted judging by her plant. Waikato not pleased with the performance due to balling in the wet. Does best in the drier areas of New Zealand, lots of disbudding required, repeat rather slow. Generally it is a very healthy rose with a marvellous fragrance and performs especially well in the autumn.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1992-93 Season
'Aotearoa NZ' (MACgenev); McGredy 1990; 'Harmonie' x 'Auckland Metro'; pale coral pink; 38 reports on 67 bushes; 1-4 years; 1.2 metres; 7.4 rating. Increased reports in on this highly publicised rose this year covering all of the country. All reporters seem very satisfied with the health with the exception of an Auckland grower who is troubled with black spot and a Marlborough grower whose bush is a very poor doer, many reports extol the lovely glossy foliage and handsome bushes. The soft coral pink blooms are well shaped exhibition type exuding a magnificent fragrance but the general consensus is that the petals lack substance, both balling in the rain and burning in the sun - this season being so wet throughout most of the country has not really suited it, perhaps next season will be better.
