From Wills cigarette cards, Roses – a series of 40 cards. Issued in 1936.
No 16.
J. C. THORNTON
(Hybrid Tea)
Introduced 1928
Bright ruby-scarlet.
A variety of brilliant colouring that makes an immediate appeal. The blooms are not too full, but they have the advantage of not going magenta colour with age. It is of vigorous and upright habit of growth, and flowers very freely, which makes it a useful garden variety, and if treated well will make a big bush. Prune at the end of March to five eyes. Not liable to disease.
