Harry H. Hazlewood.  The New Roses of 1952. Valiant (Boerner, 1949) has been described as a pale ‘Poinsettia’, but as it bloomed here it suggested a particularly good ‘Lady Battersea’. The crimson to bright red blooms are semi-double to double with a high centre and a strong tea fragrance. The growth is good, and with ‘New Yorker’, it is a very acceptable contribution to better roses.
